This polymer clay sculpture reflects the artist’s migration from the Philippines to Belgium—a journey that brought years of heartache, but also a new love that ultimately made her stay. It captures the emotional experience of leaving a tropical homeland and adapting to life in a very different environment.
The globe features both Belgium and the Philippines—Belgium, where the artist now experiences four distinct seasons, new cuisine, family life, and a different culture. While she has gradually adapted to this new life, the challenges of living in a foreign country remain present.
The Philippines continues to hold a deeply significant place in her heart. With her mother now living alone in their family home, the sense of distance has become even more profound. One of the greatest struggles has been carrying the emotional weight of leaving family behind while building a life far from home.
This piece brings both countries together, expressing how she carries her Filipino spirit, values, and memories throughout this ongoing journey—shaped by both pain and love.
